Katya, your group regularly wins various music awards. Which one evokes the most vivid memories?
Statuette "Golden Gargoyle", which is issued by the legendary Moscow club "16 tons". The most frivolous award of all serious ones. That evening we joked a lot with Alexander Revva, and I received the award from the hands of Mikhail Efremov. In the dressing rooms next to us were Suzanne and Malbec, Antokha MS and SunSay, we met and took pictures together with my figurine. It was heartfelt and fun. But we don’t have a single plate of MUZ-TV. And they are very beautiful. (This year, at the MUZ-TV awards, the IOWA group is presented in the nomination "Best Pop Group" - pRome. ed.).
Is it true that you are preparing some unexpected duets for the concert in Crocus?
We have long promised fans a duet with Lena Temnikova - and it will be. We will arrange crazy dances with Anton Belyaev from Therr Maitz, and then the dynamics will only increase: people from the audience will take the stage, we will use them in several numbers. We recently did a flash mob for the song "Bad Dance", a huge number of people participated in it, and at the concert we will invite the winner of the competition to the stage. At the end of the concert, we will congratulate Gosha Kutsenko on his birthday! He, like us, has a holiday on this day. And that's not all. The audience is waiting for a concert that we will never be able to repeat anywhere, it is the only one of its kind. And I'm not kidding. In addition to all the hits, at the concert we will perform two very fresh songs: "Fall" and "Keep quiet on me." What else? New light show and - oh, joy! There is no age limit for this concert. We are waiting for everyone.
The IOWA Group has existed for 10 years. Where did it all begin? Did you quickly work with the musicians?
I was looking for my musicians for several years until I found Lenya (Leonid Tereshchenko is now Katya's husband, as well as the guitarist of the IOWA band and songwriter - Approx. Ed.) and Vasya (Vasily Bulanov - Note. Ed.). We met in Mogilev, and immediately began to write songs with Lenya, from the first second of our acquaintance. He went to the rehearsal room, said hello, uncovered the guitar, and we started talking. At the same time, almost without words - all through music. 
We recorded the first song literally on our knees, at home. It was called "Spring". Then Lenya began to distribute this demo in social networks. He attached a song with the words "Sharing the mood." People reacted differently to this "mood". But most people liked the song. One of the organizers of the concerts in St. Petersburg invited us to perform, we arrived and immediately understood: St. Petersburg is love at first sight ... We met our people there.
What do you think is the pinnacle of a career for a musician in our country? And how far is the IOWA group from reaching this peak?
It will be possible to understand whether it is a peak or not only after some time. Much can be seen from a distance. It is important how you feel about certain events in life. It happens that the musician was praised by his friends - and he already turns up his nose, considering this his peak. Others gather stadiums and hundreds of thousands of people at their concerts, but they are still not enough. We value every day in our lives, we do what we love, we speak the same language with thousands of people - through songs. We work hard on ourselves, but already in the process we are definitely happy.
Is there a song in the IOWA repertoire that you are tired of because the audience constantly asks you to perform it?
We constantly change the arrangements of old songs so we don't get bored with them. In addition, it's just an incredible feeling when the audience sings your song from beginning to end with you. 
Which of your songs is your favorite right now?
"One and the same" and a new one - "You are silent on me." We release it in May along with the video.
Where does the name "disco tribe" come from, which is firmly entrenched in IOWA, what kind of animal is this?
We were vacationing in Thailand, and it was decided to shoot on Koh Samui. I wanted to act as a rebel from the jungle. I learned from the Internet that the "Iowas" were the last Indian tribe. This fact determined everything: I built a homemade roach - a crown of feathers, like the Indians, took a photo. Then, when I posted the photo, either T9 worked, or I just made a mistake, I can’t remember anymore, instead of the tag #indiantribe, the tag #discotribe appeared. Both we and our fans enthusiastically accepted our new "title".
Do you have any reference points in Western music?
My dream is to record a duet with Stromae. There are many such landmarks, and the most beautiful thing is that you do not know what will happen tomorrow. I used to listen to System of a Down as a teenager, but I never imagined that I would ever record a duet with Serj Tankian, the vocalist of this band.
Are your musical tastes similar to your husband's?
Yes, and so much so that we have almost the same playlists in our phones. We even wince at the same time and equally when we don't like this or that song. 
What is it like working with your spouse? You are always together.
Lena and I started dating in 2009. For about two years, they doubted the correctness of combining personal and work. In 2012, we were painted in the Chaussy registry office, they staged Mendelssohn's waltz, and he got stuck a couple of times, and in 2016 we got married. Lenya is amazing. I met someone who made me open up in creativity! He always believed in me, pushed me forward, was my main critic and openly admired me. We have the same thinking, feeling in music. We create it silently, in love, building the energy of trust around us. I know that he will play the same passage for me in a circle, until I compose something, he will wait, and without tension. He is very wise, he feels my mood swings, and I can’t keep anything in myself or accumulate resentment, I immediately post it at the stage of the problem’s inception. It turns out that this always works. He thanks me for sharing with him.

Ekaterina Ivanchikova - vocalist in the IOWA (Iowa or Yova) group, was born in the city of Chausy on August 18, 1987. The IOWA group was formed in 2009 in Mogilev, and Katya became its permanent vocalist, songwriter and real inspiration for insanely expressive and emotional performances. Katya's first performance on stage was in 1992 at the regional competition among kindergartens, then the jury awarded her first place. After the formation of the group in 2009, IOWA gave tours throughout the Republic of Belarus, however, the group members soon agreed that in order to further develop their creativity, they simply need to move to a country unfamiliar to them, where they can plunge headlong into music with renewed vigor. For some time they went on tour to St. Petersburg, and after the success of their performances, they decided to move to this city. The new environment and high competition have become the best stimulus for the creative inspiration of the group. IOWA quickly began to gain popularity among Russian listeners from the very first performances. The origin of the band name IOWA
The band name IOWA has an interesting origin story. The guys with whom Katya performed before the creation of the group always called her Iowa (or in English IOWA). When Katya once told her friend from America what her nickname is in her circle of friends, she unexpectedly found out about the existence in America of deciphering her pseudonym: I.O.W.A. - Idiots Out Wandering Around, which, loosely translated, omitting the word idiots, means "you can't hide the truth." Katya really liked this coincidence, and she decided to give this abbreviation as a name for her group. For Katya, participation in the group is not much like work, because each performance of the group becomes an incredible happiness for her and an opportunity to tell a huge number of people about the need to enjoy every new day that opens up unique opportunities for each of us.
By nature, Katya is an optimist, a dreamer and a bit of a child. By the way, thanks to her slightly childish nature, Katya feels very comfortable when communicating with children, especially with her niece. In children, she admires the amazing ability to fantasize in a way that adults can no longer, limited by their position in society and various stereotypes. Katya successfully combines her creativity with work, doing what brings her enormous pleasure and at the same time income for subsistence. The schedule of her performances is quite tight, but, according to Katya herself, she always has plenty of time to read new books, do her hobby - sewing dolls or creating children's cartoons, as well as to chat with loved ones and relatives and, of course, with dedicated fans. Many Katya's fans love her very much not only for her special style of creativity and performance, but also for the spiritual qualities of this cheerful girl, who always communicates with fans with pleasure, giving them smiles and a positive attitude.
Her voice is known by the whole country from Moscow to the very outskirts. And it's not a joke. First there was “A Simple Song”, then “Mom”, “Smile” ... And now the ubiquitous “Minibus” is tearing up the charts, and with them the dynamics of both broken “sixes” and polished “Cayennes” to a shine. Meet the lead singer of the super popular IOWA band Ekaterina Ivanchikova.
As often happens, recognition for the IOWA group, led by soloist Ekaterina Ivanchikova, first came in the regions. Satiated Moscow did not notice the nuggets from Belarusian Mogilev for a long time. But when the first album called Export entered the top five best-selling on iTunes, the capital could not resist their charm. But what is surprising is that only loyal fans and visitors to their concerts know the IOWA group in person. It is even more surprising that this fact only pleases the band's frontmen. the site met with Ekaterina Ivanchikova and learned how to catch up with a dream on a ride, live for 2 weeks on 500 rubles, and why home and work are one for her.
Together with my mother, our guitarist Leonid Tereshchenko and friends, I rested in Thailand. It's a place where you can't run away from anything. Sunrise and sunset, entertainment and new experiences will definitely catch up with you. I remember the 80-meter waterfall on Koh Samui. First we passed its horizontal part, and then the vertical part began. That's where we had to climb. Usually no one climbs to the top, and our team at the peak put their flag in the form of a photograph. This way strengthens the team spirit. There is a distribution of responsibilities, and relationships within the team are changing. It seems like an exciting game, but that's life.
E.I.: If we talk about the IOWA band, then our guitarist Lenya paved the way for us. And in life, I prefer to find my own way. I do not like it when someone leads me - then I lose control and fall asleep.
E.I.: I didn't see myself anywhere else. I started singing as soon as I spoke. It feels like someone made a choice for me and decided everything.
I have had a passion for music since childhood. Despite all the doubts, my mother always supported and helped me prepare for concerts. As a child, I performed on the stage of the House of Culture in Mogilev. She constantly took part in reviews and competitions, because she quickly memorized the texts and entered the desired image.
website: How was the IOWA group born?
E.I.: Everything happened by accident. At the age of 15 I started writing songs, but I didn't do anything with them. And in the tenth grade, I began to run to Mogilev every weekend, getting there by hitchhiking. Then I lived in the neighboring small town of Chausy ...
E.I.: I just always tried to talk drivers, asked about their childhood. And our conversation created positive energy, I stopped being afraid.
Adult men are generally not very talkative. They communicate with their wives only on business, they constantly work, and they have no one to chat with sincerely. And here I am. Accordingly, if a person opened up to me, then he had no intention of offending me later. And these trips to the big city hardened me. We can say that then I learned to communicate with people and comprehended the basics of psychology.
website: And what happened in Mogilev?
E.I.: There I met people, went to their concerts, I understood that I could perform better. Then I wanted to create my own team. Gradually, I was drawn into the rock party. I met a guy who did arrangements for me. He helped me find Lena (Leonid Tereshchenko today is the guitarist and songwriter of the IOWA group, - site note).
website: How did you and Leonid find a common language?
E.I.: In general, everyone used to call him “Lenya-Dynamo”, because he could not answer calls if he became uninteresting, he disappeared for several days. It was impossible to do business with him. Now he is the complete opposite of his past image.
Lena liked my material then, and already at the second rehearsal he culturally kicked out all the other musicians and invited Vasya (Vasily Bulanov - drummer and DJ in the IOWA group, - site note). And thanks to Lena, the group played what was in my head. I still thought it was impossible. And now I understand that our meeting is a miracle.
E.I.: For some reason, the guys from the rock party began to call me that, even before the appearance of our team. The band Slipknot has an album with that name, from there I got this nickname. All around suddenly began to say: "You're IOWA!".
website: Why, having moved to Russia, did you stay in St. Petersburg?
E.I.: I have been there many times before moving and fell in love with this city. I have not seen anything like it. Pictures with Venice, Rome and Paris do not count.
Peter never seemed to me somehow slushy and gray. We arrived in the summer, at that moment there were no cloudy days at all. It just so happened that we were invited there by a novice concert organizer to perform at the apartment building. I do not know how he risked, because he could have called a local group. This was in 2011. We took $100 with us for three of us. (laughs).
At the station, when we tried to exchange currency for rubles, we were deceived. Instead of two and a half thousand at the current exchange rate, we received only 500 rubles. I think that's how the city tested us.
website: How did you manage to survive the first time?
E.I.: Local girls came to our concert. We talked to them, and they invited us to their three-room apartment. We lived there for two weeks. After that, with money from apartment owners, we rented a couple of rooms from my friend in a five-room apartment on Petrogradka.
E.I.: I worked in a toy store. She made candles and toys from cotton wool with her own hands. True, I did not earn money on them, but gave them to buyers who came to us, but could not afford to buy something. But then they brought with them entire delegations of acquaintances. And they already took something.
website: In St. Petersburg, you met your producer Oleg Baranov, and he helped you become popular. Are you recognized on the streets today?
E.I.: Few people identify me with the image from songs or videos. And it's so good because I calmly walk the streets and ride the subway.
A year ago, I was flying on an airplane, a girl was sitting there and listening to the song “Smile”. She looked at me and did not know that I was singing it. And it's a very interesting feeling. The main thing is that fans recognize us at the concert, and then they don’t pull. I like this period, I hope it will last as long as possible, because you need to relax and be yourself.
website: How are your relationships in the team now?
E.I.: Vasya and Lenya are my dearest people, and I love them very much. Without this feeling, nothing is created in my life. I feel good with my team. I am ready with the guys and work and relax.
E.I.: All talk about my personal life is now taboo for me. I know that someday I will tell about her, but not soon. In general, I believe that love can be built in a team, because it does not interfere with work.
Now I am happy. Although it is important for me as a girl to have my own separate corner where my things lie and the cat lives. In St. Petersburg, I found such a place.
website: What qualities should your man have?
E.I.: First of all, he must have a sense of humor and wisdom - it is she, and not just the mind. You can know everything in the world, but at the same time not be able to use knowledge. I also always liked it when a man can be a kind of lion. He should be respected and feared by subordinates, but with me he can be a kitten. Being strong and strong-willed, he should not be afraid to be open, soft and gentle. There are such men, but most of our defenders used to be brought up with a belt. The boys were told not to cry, but to always be strong.
website: How do you manage to maintain a peaceful relationship with your lover?
E.I.: You need to talk a lot with your partner about what you like and don't like, how you feel and what words hurt you. It is important not to accumulate all this in yourself.
If you endure for a long time, then emotional anguish will constantly happen. Many people say that life without quarrels is not interesting. I think this is nonsense. I prefer to live and build healthy relationships, without scandals. And I like to spend most of the day with my beloved. You just need to try not to fill the whole space with yourself.
website: How do you separate home and work for yourself?
E.I.: Creativity is not work. I do not understand why it is necessary to divide life into work and home. Everything is much easier and simpler, you just have to not think about categories. If you both breathe music, then this will definitely not be a problem for you. And one must be able to laugh at difficulties in time, then a wise person will understand what is really behind it.
E.I.: I have wanted children for a long time. I even know who I will have. It feels like they are already in line. First I give birth to a boy, a real lion. I don't know where I get this feeling. Perhaps this is my inner intuition. Only the time has not come yet. It’s always in my life that if you want something, then you are carried to it.
A year ago, the soloist of the IOWA group, Ekaterina Ivanchikova, told our portal about the difficult path to fame and casually mentioned her lover, but did not disclose his name. A couple of months ago it turned out that Ekaterina Ivanchikova and the band's guitarist Leonid Tereshchenko got married. This time, in a conversation with the site, the singer spoke not only about her work, but also about the new role of a wife for herself.
Until recently, the IOWA group remained a mystery to us. The team members - Ekaterina Ivanchikova, Leonid Tereshchenko and Vasily Bulanov - could talk for a long time about their path to fame, creativity and relationships in the group, and almost nothing about their personal lives.
Of course, Katya never hid that her heart was occupied, but she refused to give the name of her lover. Fans suspected that the soloist had an affair with one of the members of her own group. Not so long ago, the guesses were confirmed - Katya said that she had married Leonid, and meanwhile, young people have been together for 10 years. Therefore, in an interview with Ekaterina, we talked not only about creativity, but also about the new role of a wife for her. But first things first.
I have a diary where I write down all the poems, songs, thoughts. I used to write on the first pieces of paper that came to hand, and, of course, all this was lost. And it's a pity, because even if the song did not turn out to the end, sooner or later the inspiration will return, and it can be finished. Therefore, now that my thoughts are collected in one diary, I randomly open any page, find the words, and a song is born in my head.
website: Do you have a stage image, or what we see is you real?
E.I.: It is very difficult to embody the image constantly - sooner or later your true essence will manifest itself, and they will immediately begin to write about it. I think that's how the yellow press came about.
“I was lucky - my work is inseparable from myself. I do not share the concepts of personal life and stage.
website: Can you imagine yourself in any other profession?
E.I.: I think I could be a performance artist. I would definitely “weave” music, people, light into my creations and do it in front of the audience. Or maybe I would become a dancer… You see, I still imagine something connected with the stage. I really need people, their instant reaction, interaction with them. It is such a feeling of euphoria, adrenaline… Having experienced these emotions once, you will not be able to refuse them.
E.I.: scenes never. Rather, I was afraid of people's reaction - how they would accept the song, its style, whether they would understand the idea.
E.I.: Absolutely right. You know, there are people who go through life with a smile and shine, come to the company, and everyone notices them. Just do not confuse this with importunity and selfishness. I'm talking about people who set the pace, smile, joke, cheer up, give sincere compliments. Here I am somewhat similar to such people.
website: I generally got the impression that you are a kind, open, maybe even a little naive person. Do my feelings deceive me?
E.I.: Friends say that I can be given 12 years (smiles).
“It is believed that only children believe in miracles, and adults know that life is disappointing, breaking off, and in general it is not sugar and not a fairy tale. But I’m sure that only what you believe in happens.”
For example, you need to learn how to give, because this is the only way you can get something in return. Before, I could not understand this: “Well, how am I going to go on stage now and spend all my energy? I won't have anything left." But in 2012, on the New Wave, I decided to give everything without a trace, it didn’t matter to me whether I would get a return or not. A performance is more than just an "artist sings - people listen" scheme. This is an exchange of energy, and on the "New Wave" I learned how to manage it. Then I realized that I want to give, because such creative energy always comes in response. Sometimes fans write letters telling how they have changed under the influence of a song or our performance. Some give back through hugs when they enter our dressing room.
website: Not so long ago, you and your spouse Leonid declassified your relationship. Has this fact affected your work?
E.I.: Oh sure. Our whole life intersects with our creativity. We just released the song “Your Poems, My Guitar”, and in the video for it we showed famous couples and entered ourselves into this story. And it all happened quite by accident, but as if on purpose. No wonder they say everything has its time.
E.I.: Initially, we were absolute opposites, we adjusted for a long time, but we sincerely wanted to change for each other. We began to do one thing, and then feelings arose that seemed inappropriate to us in joint work. And at some point we sat down at the table to talk about it, trying to figure out if it would be possible to combine personal and work (and then we were serious about work). In the end, we decided that it would be better and more correct not to meet ... And for the first time we kissed (smiles).
In a relationship, you don’t know what will happen tomorrow, so you need to enjoy every day. Lenya, by the way, is a “professional” to ask for forgiveness, he apologizes every day, and he doesn’t do it automatically, but really worries about any little things.
“My husband is the most well-mannered and gallant person on earth - he constantly gives me a hand, opens the car door, takes care of me. It feels like we just met and he's trying to impress me. I have never met such people in my life and, of course, I am happy that Lenya is my husband. I never get tired of saying thanks to his mother and I wonder how she managed to raise such a person.
website: I suppose that you quarrel quite rarely.
E.I.: In all the 10 years that we have been together, we have quarreled only once. Because of our cat. When we first got a kitten, we still couldn't domesticate it. We lived on the first floor, and the kitten often ran through the window into the yard, and always in the same sandbox, so we knew exactly where to look for him.
But once Lenya and his team (then he was a member of a rock band) went on tour to Kiev, and I went to Minsk to see a vocal teacher - I had four training days planned. And then the cat ran away again, but this time someone offended her - Lenya found her shabby. In general, we quarreled a lot because of this - the cat was our child, which I didn’t keep track of, moreover, I didn’t come home right away, but stayed in Minsk. Of course, he was offended, because the cat, in his opinion, was more important. Then we parted for two days, then, of course, we reconciled. Do not worry about the cat, everything is fine with her, she feels great.
E.I.: No. Henceforth, if there are any misunderstandings, resentment, we just talk about it right away so that there are no breakdowns.

website: You have been together for a long time, did you think about children?
E.I.: The fact is that many members of our team have children, and if now I also give birth, the group will cease its activities. I still like what is happening now. Today I think in one direction, and with the birth of a child, my thinking will change. I don’t know… Maybe it’s fear, because a child is a big responsibility, a different life. I'm not ready to step into the unknown just yet. Or maybe, at the end of the conversation, I will think and understand: “And she is right.” (smiles). Let's see.

Childhood
The girl's childhood was creative, although she was born in a simple family that had nothing to do with art. But, noticing the baby’s artistic abilities that appeared very early, the father and mother made great efforts to develop their daughter’s talents and provide her with a good education and a wonderful future, for which Katya is very grateful to them.
In turn, she was a trouble-free child who studied hard and obeyed her parents. The only reason for the recurring disagreements were homeless little animals, which compassionate Katya constantly dragged into the house.
While she grew up, cats, dogs, birds and even small rodents managed to visit the apartment. However, every year the girl had less and less time for them.
In parallel with the usual school, Katya was happy to study music. A little later, dancing was added to the music. As a teenager, she also became interested in drawing. And falling in love, while still quite young, she suddenly began to write poetry and compose her own songs. Naturally, about love.
It was then that for the first time the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating your own musical group came to the young hot head.
First steps
And although in her dreams Katya saw herself as a famous singer performing original songs, seriousness and prudence prevailed when the question of choosing a profession arose. The girl entered the philological faculty and at the same time graduated from the faculty of journalism. That's what it means to be able to keep up with everything at once, which she developed in her school.
In 2009, Katya moved to Mogilev, where she began working in her specialty. However, the childhood dream of her own group does not go out of her head. Being a frequenter of various musical parties, Katya meets the guys-musicians, who later formed the backbone of the Iowa group.
The repertoire was based on songs composed by Katya in modern youth processing. Later, guitarist Lenya Tereshchenko joined in writing music.
The group tries to perform at every opportunity, and soon enough they begin to invite them to various clubs, including those in the capital, and to corporate parties. The popularity of children in Belarus is growing every day. But this is not enough for young artists. Having saved up some money and created a full-fledged and fairly high-quality repertoire, the guys decide to go to Moscow.
Conquest of Moscow
The Russian capital received them coldly, as, however, it accepts all strangers without serious connections or substantial sums of money. It is clear that the guys had neither one nor the other. Accumulated savings rapidly vanished. And during this time they failed to find not only a music producer, but even a stable job in a decent metropolitan club.
IOWA Group
In order to somehow stay afloat, the musicians begin to play on the streets and passages. This brings even a small, but constant income, allowing you to survive in a big city. Who knows how soon even the stubborn Katya, who was the ideological inspirer of the team and the initiator of the move, would have given up if not for the chance given to them by fate.
During this period, a new musical show "Red Star" was launched on one of the TV channels in Moscow. Talented guys went to test their strength and surprisingly easily passed the casting. So they first appeared on one of the central TV channels. The audience liked the group, but literally a month later no one remembered them.
However, as former participants in the TV show, they were already more seriously considered in clubs, so the first stable earnings appeared. Realizing that they won't last long, Katya persuades the guys to spend their newly accumulated small savings on a video clip. After a short search, we managed to find the performer of this plan, and a few weeks later the first video of the group for the song "Mama" appeared on YouTube.
In the first week alone, the video gained over a million views. After that, the guys managed to find a sponsor who helped them go to the New Wave music youth festival in Jurmala. And although the group did not get any prize, they managed to declare themselves quite loudly and gain thousands of fans - the festival was broadcast by all central channels.
To date, the Iowa group has become successful and popular. The guys filmed and aired six more clips, and their repertoire already includes several dozen high-quality compositions. The group has great creative plans, but nevertheless they continue to work on improving their professional skills, believing that even light music must be performed with high quality.
Personal life
Katya Ivanchikova carefully protects her personal life from journalists. Many are surprised how such a clever beauty manages to remain alone. But in the early years, Katya got burned in her first relationship and for a long time was not ready to start another.
