Autumn in Karelia. Composition-description based on the painting by Vasily Vasilyevich Meshkov “Golden autumn in Karelia General view of the painting golden autumn in Karelia

Welcome to the capital of Karelia - the city of Petrozavodsk. The port of five seas, located on the shores of the second largest fresh water reservoir in Europe - Lake Onega. A real European city, with a national Karelian-Finnish flavor, the same age as St. Petersburg, cozy, beautiful, with its own unique history. Founded in 1703 by Peter I, as a city founded by Catherine II in 1777.

Here cannons for the Russian army were cast, cast-iron decorations of St. Petersburg were made here, the famous "Onezhets" tractors were built here. It is not for nothing that the name of the city contains the word “factory”. But the capital of Karelia is also a place of beauty and unbridled nature - either harsh northern, or calm, Scandinavian-balanced.

You can choose trains to arrive in Petrozavodsk from 7:00 to 9:30. We will meet you at the railway station, starting at 8:30 with a big red sign "The Golden Ring of Karelia". The suitcases can be given to our manager, leaving only the essentials with you on the first day of excursion - the manager will take the things to the hotel and they will be waiting for you in the locker until you check in.

Our group's breakfast will last from 9:15 am to 9:45 am.

A Journey Through the Ages is a program of acquaintance with Petrozavodsk, a visit to the museum of industrial history, revealing the path of the city and its enterprises, starting with the Petrovsky plant, founded by Peter the Great. We will go through several eras: "The Land Awakened by Peter", "The Epoch of Catherine the Great" and touch the Orthodox Petrozavodsk.

After that we will walk along the embankment of the city - the visiting card of Petrozavodsk.

At 14:00 we go to visit Talvi Ukko and his faithful friends: Husks and reindeer! Our program includes 2 excursions to real reindeer and sled dog kennel, as well as tea drinking with Karelian pastries and tea made with local herbs.

At the very beginning of the estate, small reindeer and their calves live. Talvi Ukko's assistants will take you on a tour of the farm, introduce you to these wonderful creatures and tell you about the interesting life of these wonderful animals.
On the territory of the patrimony, there is the largest kennel for sports sled dogs in Russia. We will go there accompanied by an instructor. Here you will make friends with the famous Alaskan Husks, Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Husks. Feel the boundless trust and love of these beautiful creatures, take nice photos for memory. Talvi Ukko's assistants will conduct an excursion and tell you many amazing things about summer and winter sledding sports, the variety and purpose of each of the sled breeds, character traits and roles in the team of each of the four-legged athletes. After 2 excursions, you will have the opportunity to sit in a sled and ride a small circle with sled dogs through a beautiful forest (500 meters) - for an additional fee (purchased in fact on the estate).

In the evening, check into the hotel. Enjoy your stay!

DAY 2 / RUSKEAL MARBLE CANYON

Good morning! How did you sleep? Hopefully good. It's time to have breakfast and gain new strength. A journey into a fairy tale awaits us. Ahead is the Northern Ladoga area.

8.00 Breakfast in hotel restaurants.

9.00 Departure to Ruskeala marble canyon. Distance from Petrozavodsk to Ruskeala - 260 km, travel time 3.5-4 hours. On the way, the guide-guide will tell you about the history of our republic, you will drive past the old Karelian villages and a huge number of beautiful lakes.

In front of the Ruskeala mountain park, we will make a stop at the Ruskeala waterfalls: the historical place where the film "The Dawns Here Are Quiet ..." was filmed. Optionally, for an additional fee, you can visit the
walk along the hinged wooden bridges right above the waterfalls and feel all the power and beauty of this place.

At about 14:00 we arrive at the territory of the Ruskeala mountain park, where we will have a walking tour of the marble canyon (1.5 hours). The 1.5-kilometer eco-trail around Ruskeala has many panoramic platforms offering views of this unique place. In addition, you can slightly deviate from the main path and walk into the depths of the through cave (adits) and see the geology of the canyon. Also next to the main canyon there are deposits of Italian marble, which can be visited on their own.

After a sightseeing tour around the canyon, we provide free time. You can go boating, climb the canyon over the rope bridge, and go diving at an additional cost. In 2018, the Underground Route was launched on the territory of the canyon. All additional services are purchased on the spot, at the ticket offices of the mountain park: on a first come, first served basis and subject to availability. Unfortunately, the park administration does not provide the possibility of pre-booking.

In addition, on the territory of Ruskeala Park there is an opportunity to eat in a cafe and buy souvenirs in shops.

Arrival in Petrozavodsk at 21-00. Guests go for a walk around the city - there is time to buy souvenirs or sit in a restaurant of Karelian national cuisine, or relax in hotel rooms.

DAY 3 / KARELIA'S GOLDEN RING

Good morning, dear travelers. What did you dream about? Hopefully all the beauties seen in the previous 2 days. And today we will have an excursion "The Golden Ring of Karelia".

We will visit five major sights near Petrozavodsk: the picturesque Sampo Mountain; the first Russian resort "Marcial Waters", founded by Peter I; ancient volcano Girvas; and the famous Kivach waterfall.

Sampo, according to Karelian-Finnish mythology, is an object that gives happiness. The world famous "Kalevala" tells us about such an item that has magical powers and is considered a source of abundance, happiness and well-being. There is also the Sampo mountain in the Karelian region, named after the miracle mill. Mount Sampo is a rocky hill, about 40 meters high. On its slopes there are hiking trails with signs and stairs with railings. Thus, the ascent to the top is quite comfortable. An observation deck is equipped at a height, from which magnificent landscapes open up. A century-old forest rustles below and the beautiful Konchezero is spread out.

Ahead of us is the first Russian resort named Marcial Waters. The place got its unusual name with the light hand of the assistant of Peter I. He investigated the composition of local mineral waters, found them high in iron, and gave the name in honor of the god of war Mars. The resort is famous not only for its waters, but also for its special microclimate. It is better to drink healing water from springs right away, because local mineral water is not stored for a long time. After a fairly short time, a sediment appears in it, and it loses its medicinal properties. We will definitely combine tasting the marcial water with visiting local sights - we will see with you the Caretaker's House, the Church of the Apostle Peter and the pavilions above the ore mining site and the former source of healing water. The temple is the only building that has survived from the times of Peter the Great. Moreover, it was built according to the project and personal drawings of Tsar Peter.

Our path lies to the remains of an ancient volcano, or rather to the town of Girvas. This is a dry waterfall. So it became after the waters of the Suna were diverted for the needs of the Palleozerskaya hydroelectric power station. The places around Girvas are very picturesque: reddish granite rocks are framed by quiet backwaters, small waterfalls, abandoned trays for forest rafting.

Karelia, the land of a thousand lakes and rivers, is famous for its waterfalls. There are many of them here, but perhaps the most famous is Kivach. It is considered the decoration and pride of the region, because this waterfall is the second largest on the plains of Europe. Kivach lost the championship only to the Rhine Falls in Germany.

Today Kivach is part of the reserve of the same name, which was created in 1931. At first, it was assumed that the protected area was created to preserve the most beautiful waterfall in Karelia. Later it turned out that the local nature is very diverse and interesting, so the territory of the reserve expanded to 10 thousand hectares. Kivach is a must-see place for all tourists coming to Karelia. We will visit the waterfall itself, walk along the hiking trails with shady pavilions, for everyone - cafes and souvenir shops, as well as an arboretum with a grove of Karelian birch and a Museum of Nature. Kivach waterfall is a visiting card of Karelia. To come to the land of lakes and waterfalls and not see this padun, as the locals call it, is an unforgivable mistake. Kivach is an amazingly beautiful place. The snow-white waterfall, like an expensive canvas, is enclosed in a frame of the greenery of centuries-old forests. There is a belief that he takes away anxiety and bad thoughts. You just need to concentrate on the foamy streams and let the water take away all the bad things, wash your mind and soul with cool moisture. Stand by the waterfall. Kivach generously shares his irrepressible energy and vitality with people. Everyone who has ever felt it comes back to him again and again.

During the tour, we will stop at a cafe where you can eat and gain strength. And then - return to Petrozavodsk.

We hope your acquaintance with Karelia was successful! We are sure you will want to come back! Karelia will dream for a long time!

The nature of Karelia is forever imprinted in the memory of everyone who comes to the north-west of Russia. Descriptions of these places can be found both in works of fiction and on paintings.

The nature of Karelia is multifaceted. Bright and varied colors are combined with calmness and tranquility. The majestic pine forests - the wealth of Karelia - amaze with their power.

Here you can find shrubs of lingonberry, blueberry, cloudberry and blueberry, and sometimes juniper everywhere. Mushroom pickers go here on a "quiet hunt" for porcini mushrooms, boletus and chanterelles. In addition to pine forests, spruce forests can also be found in Karelia. There are also mixed forests here, but conifers also predominate in them, although there are birches, and lindens, and maples.

There are many swamps in this area. They formed on the site of shallow lakes, which were overgrown with moss over time. Many plants can be found only in this area and they all remind only of the nature of Karelia. A description of some of them can be found in the Red Book of Russia. You will not find dwarf birch and some types of mosses anywhere else.

There are a lot of lakes here. On a small area of Karelia, there are at least 60 of them. The most famous are Ladoga and Onega. There are many rivers here, but all of them are short in length.

The fauna is also represented here in all its diversity. Here you can see all representatives of the taiga forests. Lynxes, brown bears, wolves and badgers live in the Karelian forests. Of the small animals, hares, squirrels and beavers live here in large numbers. Since there are many reservoirs in Karelia, such representatives of the fauna as muskrat, otter, marten and mink are also characteristic of these places. There are seals in Lake Onega and on the White Sea. Elk and wild boar are found in the southern part of Karelia. Here you can meet a raccoon dog and a Canadian mink.

Birds also did not deprive this rich land. There are black grouse, hazel grouse, capercaillie and ptarmigan. There are many birds and predators: hawks, golden eagles, owls. Seagulls and eiders live here from waterfowl. A huge number of sandpipers inhabit the swamps.

A large number of fish swim in the rivers and lakes of Karelia: pike, perch, pike perch, burbot and others. Herring, cod and flounder are found in the northern seas.

At the beginning of summer, the period of white nights begins here. Many travelers come to Karelia at this very time. In this area, you can also see the northern lights. Everyone who comes here immediately falls in love with Karelia. This nature cannot leave anyone indifferent.

Epigraph

Painters, dip your brushes
in the bustle of the Arbat courtyards and in the dawn,
so that your brushes are like leaves,
like leaves, like leaves by November.

Dip your brushes in blue
according to the tradition of the forgotten city,
draw both diligently and with love,
how with love we pass along Tverskaya.

Let the pavement swing as soon as he wakes up!
Let it begin that has not yet begun.
You draw, you draw, it will be credited to you ...
What can we guess: succeeded - failed?

You, as judges, draw our destinies,
our summer, our winter and spring ...
It's okay that we are strangers. You paint!
I will explain later, which is not clear.

Bulat Okudzhava

A word about the artist

Russian landscape painting is rich and varied in its views and the mood conveyed in it. It embraces the vastness of fields and seas, the richness and diversity of forests and meadows, the identity of the old Russian village and the modern village, individual architectural monuments, urban ensembles, parks and squares.

Vasily Vasilyevich Meshkov (1893–1963) is one of the most prolific representatives of the Russian realistic art school. People's Artist of the RSFSR. Corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Laureate of the Stalin Prize. Russian painter, son of artist V. N. Meshkov. Studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1911 he joined the Itinerants. At the beginning of his work, he painted mainly cityscapes. (Slide 4)

After graduating from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, Meshkov went to continue his education abroad. Returning to Russia in 1914, when the First World War began, he was mobilized as an artist and roamed a lot with the Army Headquarters. Many sketches about the war were created by him during these years. (Slide 5)

After 1917, the artist abandons his favorite historical theme and becomes a theater artist.

A trip to the Crimea and the Caucasus in 1924-1925 was a milestone in the creative biography of V.V. Meshkov: he began to get carried away with the landscape. He creates a number of paintings with his "Bagkovo" silvery coloring: "Gray Day", "Silver Rain", "Cold", "After the Rain", "Lake" and others. His landscapes convey the poetic state of nature, in tune with the artist's mood. (slides 6,7)

During the Great Patriotic War he made several trips to the front, according to the results of which in 1944 he created the works "After the Enemy", "In the Footsteps of the Invaders". (slides 8, 9)

The burning ideas of the time are revealed in landscapes like the painting "The Tale of the Urals". But in this case, the artistic image of the work with great power expresses the ideas of society precisely in the first post-war years, when our people, having won a victory over the dark forces of fascism, felt powerful forces in themselves, when immense horizons opened up before them, when they felt themselves the sovereign master of their immense Homeland, which repelled the invasion of a terrible enemy

(slides 10, 11)

After the harsh years of war, Meshkov was especially sensitive to nature. He writes landscapes that seem to assert the human right to a happy life: "Shops", "Okskiye Dali", "Cold Day", "Kosogor", "Golden Podmoskovye". (slides 12 - 14)

The artist's personal exhibitions were held in Moscow (1916, 1941, 1953) and Novosibirsk (1929). His works are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, Museum of Russian Art in Kiev. (slides 15 - 19)

Perhaps, no other region touched the artist so much as Karelia. He created a whole suite of magnificent paintings: "Lake District", "September Colds", "Autumn in Karelia", "Autumn Song", "Golden Autumn in Karelia". Meshkov revealed the special poetry of this northern nature, harsh and strict. (slide 20 - 22)

Painting work

What is shown in the picture?

Before us is a reproduction of a painting by the remarkable artist Vasily Vasilyevich Meshkov. He created a number of magnificent paintings dedicated to this region, but the best among them is “Golden Autumn in Karelia”. The author revealed the special poetry of northern nature, harsh and strict. We see in the picture a dry, cloudy day. The air is clean and transparent. Gray, autumn-cold clouds hang low and seem to cling to the tops of the pines. There is no sun, but the colors of the autumn forest create the effect of bright light.

What does the viewer see in the foreground?

In the foreground of the painting, we see a stone ridge overgrown with rare trees clad in gold. Among them are boulders in huge gray blocks. Tall slender pines with a green crown rise above the forest, stretching towards the cold northern sky.

What's in the background of the painting?

In the background, behind the trees, surrounded by pine trees, the gray surface of the lake is visible, the shores of which are still covered with green grass. On the left, behind him, you can see a dark strip of forest. An overcast, milky-gray sky completes the autumn landscape.

What details can be used to determine that the picture depicts Karelia?

Karelia is a very beautiful and picturesque region with majestic and harsh nature. Hilly terrain, many lakes, modest vegetation making its way to the sun through the stones. In autumn Karelia is especially beautiful. Nature says goodbye to the short summer brightly, with fury. It was this time of northern autumn that VV Meshkov portrayed in his painting "Golden Autumn in Karelia".

The artist has revealed the special poetry of this region. To convey its originality, he found the appropriate color, which combines gray and golden colors. A riot of colors is expressed in all shades of yellow, brown, red and gold.

It seems that all nature has frozen in the hope of prolonging this autumnal charm for as long as possible. The chain of grayish lakes, the grass turning yellow on the hill, the crowns of trees burning with a furious fire, the dull blue sky in the clouds - the whole landscape here greedily absorbs the last heat, as if trying to delay the inevitable winter

What are the features of the composition of the painting? (Why does the artist choose an elongated format for the painting?)

The artist chose the elongated horizontal format of the canvas, of course, not by chance - the panorama created thanks to him emphasizes the scale and diversity of Karelian nature. A similar spatial composition: the artist often creates, this enhances the length of the landscape and at the same time gives it an epic sound.

What do you think the artist wanted to express with his landscape?

“The land of lakes, uninhibited birds and untrodden paths”, as this land was once called, captivated the artist with the peculiar poetry of its harsh landscape and color. Here is the kingdom of water, stone and forest. The chain of endless lakes, various in their outlines, are sometimes connected by channels and waterfalls, sometimes they are divided by stone ridges. Small wooded islets are scattered among the lakes, creating a kind of special slow rhythm in the panorama of the lakes. The stones either stood up as bizarre wild rocks, bare or overgrown with pines, trampled in regular rows, then scattered as separate boulders covered with moss and lichens or smoothly turned by water and winds.

What impression did the painting make on you?

The artist himself is in love with his nature, conveys delight to the audience, forcing us again and again to admire the bright and multicolored Karelian landscape. The color of the picture conveys the coolness and festivity of autumn nature. We see the depth and endless expanses of the Russian north, which are breathtaking.

Before you begin to describe the picture of the famous Russian landscape painter Vasily Vasilyevich Meshkov, you need to understand what is the peculiarity of the nature of the present Republic of Karelia. Firstly, this is real Northern Europe, the North-West of the Russian Federation, a place side-by-side with Finland. Secondly, these are continuous hilly plains with multiple bodies of water. Thirdly, the vast forest areas consist in the overwhelming majority of conifers with a small admixture of small-leaved plants: birch, aspen, alder, willow.

Many critics see a certain spirituality in Meshkov's paintings and I completely agree with them, because his "Golden Autumn in Karelia" lives its own life. This is not a snapshot, a moment from life, this is a complex of a large performance, an action that develops in the process of contemplating a picture. The trees froze in anticipation of the rough touch of the wind, their leaves ready to rustle in fright. In the soft and dim light of the sun, which cannot break through heavy leaden clouds, the bright decoration of autumn seems to be the main source of illumination. Powerful pines, gray boulders, twin ponds of the gray sky, still green grass - everything is in its place with the artist, like notes in a chord. The fact that Meshkov chose the elongated panoramic format of the picture to depict the landscape of the wild northern edge is an extremely successful move. Indeed, in this way, the picture became majestic, the coverage increased, and nature itself became more clearly and comprehensively traced.

My fantasy whispers in the subconscious, forming a special perception of the picture. Looking at the canvas in an effort to learn its essence, the author's idea, I see fire, which eagerly pounced on the entire landscape covered by the panorama. The yellow-crimson leaves, as if pockets of elemental fire, engulfed everything around, throwing gray cloud smoke into the sky. One of the symbols of the flame is purification, and in nature, fiery autumn absorbs withering leaves, so that after a few months of temperature stress, the plant resurrects more strongly. Here is my vision of this certainly not mediocre picture.

V.V. Meshkov

Our today's lesson in the development of speech is a lesson in preparation for writing an essay based on the painting by VV Meshkov "Golden Autumn in Karelia".

We have to get acquainted with a new name - the artist Vasily Vasilyevich Meshkov, and we will also try to find out what is the originality of the autumn season in Karelia, what this northern region was interested in by the artist.

"Glamor eyes", autumn is so beautiful and multifaceted that poets dedicated their inspired lines to it, artists recreated its appearance on canvases, and musicians captured it in sounds. And everyone finds their colors for the fall.

She is the shyest of all seasons, and it can be difficult to follow her steps. Autumn begins with a special silence (M. Nesterov "Autumn Landscape"). The silence is such that it seems: nature has thought deeply, deeply, all summer chores are over, and nature is resting. Alexei Konstantinovich Tolstoy is close to this soft thoughtfulness, this silence of autumn:

Your quiet hello to us

Peaceful autumn sends.

No sharp outlines

There are no bright colors ...

Nature is all full of the last warmth ...

The poet Yevgeny Baratynsky in his poem "Autumn" noted that the silence of the first autumn days not only soothes, but also alarms with a premonition of devastation. (The student reads a poem).

And here is a reproduction of the most famous painting by I. Levitan "Golden Autumn", the artist managed to convey the silence of autumn, the clear joy of relaxation. The golden outfit will soon fly around, but in the distance we see an emerald winter field and understand that in the spring life will definitely revive and everything will start all over again. Do you remember Tyutchev's poem, consonant with this picture? (The student reads "There is in the original autumn ...").

Autumn fascinated many artists (we are considering reproductions of paintings selected for the lesson). And this is how we see autumn (students' drawings). Isn't it true that in their mood they are close to the lines from "The Leaf Fall" by IA Bunin? (The student reads a poem).

What is it, autumn in Karelia? And what is this edge? Many years ago the composer A. Kolker visited there and created the song "Karelia". Listen here. (The song "Karelia" sounds, lyrics by K. Ryzhov).

Karelian poets are very fond of their northern land, the land of stones, water and forests, the land of white nights. Now we will get acquainted with fragments of poems dedicated to autumn, pay attention to the figurativeness of these lines. (Working with handouts).

In Moscow, in the Tretyakov Gallery, there is a painting "Golden Autumn in Karelia". Its author is the artist Vasily Vasilyevich Meshkov. He will tell us about this person

(student tells).

A word about the artist (card 1)

"Art arose for me at the dawn of my youth, like a beautiful solar phenomenon." VV Meshkov was born in Moscow on April 5, 1893 in the family of the famous itinerant artist Vasily Nikitich Meshkov. Such people as Polenov, Surikov, Vasnetsov, Musatov, Mamontov, Chaliapin visited his father's house. The atmosphere of excited conversations about art developed in young Meshkov a love for creativity. “I was 6 years old, and no toys fascinated me. More brushes, pot-bellied tubes of paints, colored pencils, paper, which was my passion to stain, pleased me more.

Once the father, together with Levitan, took the boy for sketches. It was getting dark. The artists began to collect their canvases. "I, Meshkov recalled, collecting paint on the bark of a tree with some kind of sliver and looking at the sky, began to select tones." Levitan noticed that the boy felt the tone of the sky more faithfully than anyone else and said: "Perhaps he will be a landscape painter!" The father, who dreamed of seeing his son as a historical painter, jokingly replied: "I will kill if he walks along the landscape."

But the beauty peculiar only to the Russian landscape captured the young artist. Siberia, the Urals, the Volga region, the Crimea, the Moscow region ... Wherever Vasily Vasilyevich Meshkov has visited, he is one of the best landscape painters in Russia.

He came to Karelia 4 times - in 1951, 1952, 1954 and 1956, because work on the topic dedicated to the nature of Karelia fascinated Vasily Vasilyevich. On many Karelian canvases there is autumn, so beloved by the artist. This autumn color of a quiet, light pore brings a note of sincerity, softness to the overall harsh appearance of nature. Flaming colors of gold of birches, bright red bunches of mountain ash, pink color of aspens - all this gives that additional mood of the landscape, through which you can more clearly comprehend the soul of nature in Karelia.

Meshkov's canvases evoke associations with northern legends, with the music of Rimsky-Korsakov, Grieg ...

Student message (card 2):

Karelia is a land of forests and lakes located in the northwest of Russia. There are such world famous architectural monuments as Kizhi and Valaam Monastery. More than half of the area of Karelia is covered with forests, dominated by pine and spruce. The pine is unpretentious, it grows even on rocks. The Karelian taiga differs from the gloomy taiga of Siberia. It is lighter, more affable, not as thick and difficult to pass as the Siberian one. Birch and aspen grow here, and in the south of Karelia - linden and maple. Large gaps in the forest are formed thanks to the numerous lakes and rivers (66 thousand rivers and lakes!). The surface is a hilly plain. Low mountains made of solid stone - selgi. Large smoothed rocks - ram's foreheads - and boulders are often found. Rocks, pines and water are the visiting card of Karelia!

Collection of material for the essay.

Vocabulary work:

Lamba, lambushka - a small forest lake (dialect.)

Selga - low mountains made of solid stone (dialect.)

Boulders - large rounded smooth stones.

Lexical work

Examples of phrases and sentences:

  • In the composition of the picture;
  • an abundance of boulders;
  • poetry of the landscape;
  • chain of lakes;
  • tall, harsh pines.
  • The color of the picture conveys the majesty and festivity of the Karelian autumn.
  • For the depiction of autumn, the author uses an expressive color scheme.
  • To show the boundlessness of the Karelian landscape, the artist uses a horizontal canvas format

Feature of the composition: horizontally stretched canvas (the artist's favorite format) allows us to show the vastness of his native land, the artist admires this land of unafraid birds and conveys this love to us.

To convey his thoughts, the artist uses the technique of contrast. We see harsh rocks, powerful boulders and fragile, trembling trees.

The originality of color: a dark stone, gray, low sky, a silver mirror of a lambushka and golden, crimson leaves, an elegant forest, a lot of air and light.

Capturing the silent and deserted expanses of Karelia, the artist strove to express the spirit of this northern land. And he, undoubtedly, managed to convey the combination of the EQUAL POWER of nature with the inherent TENDERNESS, POETRY, SIMPLICITY. This is the land of heroes and poets (epic "Kalevala").

For others, my side

Unsociable and harsh
